  • MERRILLVILLE | Although heís not planning to play basketball in college, Larry Crisler still has the clutch gene deep in his DNA. Tough times donít last and tough people do, and Crisler proved Friday night that in any given scenario, heís probably going to be the toughest dog. Crisler took over the game at both ends of the floor in the fourth quarter and scored the winning basket with 22 seconds remaining as Times No. 4 Bishop Noll beat Andrean 50-48. It was Nollís first win in the parochial matchup, which on this night included a pre-game prayer by Bishop Dale Melczek, since Crislerís freshman season and the regular-season finale for both teams.

  • CALUMET TWP. | It may not have been how Bishop Noll envisioned the win coming before the game Saturday, but the Times No. 5 Warriors still cruised to a 61-32 win over River Forest for the Greater South Shore Conference tournament title. "Early on, a couple calls didn't go in our favor," said coach Vanita Gary, whose team defended its crown. "It kind of sucked some of the energy out of the game." Naomi House and Elena Sobilo each missed much of the first half with foul trouble. House tallied her second foul barely two minutes into the game. River Forest slowed the bleeding in the second quarter but Noll still lead 30-14 at the break. House notched her fourth foul at the 5:35 mark of the third and went back to the bench. "It changes our rhythm a bit (to have House and Sobilo out of the regular rotation)," Gary said. "Early foul calls can make you play a little more timid, a little less aggressive." "Aggressive ball is our style. Anything other than that, it's an adjustment."

  • CALUMET TWP. | Tyreon Gates wasnít on Bishop Nollís basketball team his freshman year, so he missed a chance to cut down a piece of the net after Noll won the Greater South Shore Conference that season. Saturday at Calumet, the Noll senior made sure he tickled the net multiple times before taking his latest souvenir piece down. Gates broke open a tight game with a pair of late 3-pointers in the final minutes and led Bishop Noll with 19 points as the Warriors captured their fourth consecutive GSSC tournament title with a 64-48 win over Lake Station.
