  • CHICAGO HEIGHTS | It came down to the little things for Crete-Monee en route to capturing the Southland Conference boys track title on Wednesday night. Sophomore LaVall McNulty won discus with a throw of 141 feet, 11 inches, his career best by 20 feet. The Warriors grabbed first and third place in each hurdle race. Senior Quinten Nash won the 200 meters barely a half-hour after being nipped at the wire by Bloom Township's James Harriel in the 400 "Any team victory tonight was kind of unexpected," Warriors coach Brian O'Donnell said. "On paper, we were supposed to lose by 50 points. But some of our guys stepped upy. I wasn't expecting to win conference." Crete-Monee beat Bloom 170-160, in a two-team runaway. Rich East (78) was a distant third. Last year, Bloom beat Crete-Monee by 67 points. O'Donnell didn't need to be reminded.

  • CRETE | For the graduating seniors of the Crete-Monee football team, it has been quite a ride. The seniors leave behind an impressive legacy and an impressive collection of statistics. A 40-7 record over the past four seasons. A 35-consecutive game winning streak, and 30 consecutive Southland Athletic Conference wins. Also, two undefeated regular seasons in 2011 and 2012, including a 14-0 season and state championship in 2012. "These kids had a huge part in us winning our first state championship ever in school history," Warrior head football coach John Konecki said. "They set a bar of excellence that will forever be held up as, this is what we're trying to do as a team and as a class here at Crete-Monee High School." And now, some Warriors will move on. The Warriors will send nine players into the college ranks next season, the most from one graduating class in school history. Rodulfo Antuna will attend St. Xavier University. Deon Benton, Lincoln University. Jonathon Draper, Eastern Illinois. Kevon Love, Fort Scott College. Joshua McCaskel, St. Joseph. Nyles Morgan, Notre Dame University. Shane Ratkovich, Robert Morris University. Chris Slayton, Syracuse University. And Anthony Townsend, Lincoln University.

  • RICHTON PARK | Crete-Monee couldn't contain Bolingbrook's inside game and in the first half, it couldn't control the basketball. The Warriors stumbled out of the gate in falling 81-63 to the Raiders in a first-round game of the McDipper XLI. Times No. 1 Marian Catholic, the defending McDipper champions, and Thornton got off to good starts as both won first-round games handily. Crete-Monee (7-3) committed 10 first-half turnovers and could not keep the bigger Raiders off the boards.
