GARY | Kankakee Valley needed only three hits to put an early end to its 10-0 five-inning win over Bowman on Saturday at U.S. Steel Yard. "We didn't hit the cover off the ball, but we were opportunistics a little bit today," coach Doug Greenlee said. "There were a couple of high fly balls that dropped. That helped. Those were tough plays." In the Eagles' (0-1) first game of the season, Bowman officially had four errors, but allowed several balls to drop that could have been caught. "The only disappointment I had was my veteran ballplayers and some of the mental mistakes they made," Bowman coach William Outlaw said. "All the runs were off errors, so once we correct the mental mistakes I think we'll have a great season."
