ST. JOHN | The Lake Central and E.C. Central coaches and administration waited until the last minute to postpone Friday's game to 7 p.m. Saturday. Officials had hoped to start the game no later than 9 p.m., which means they'd need to take the field no later than 8:30 p.m. Friday. But the lightning wouldn't stop. "We have to decide what is a safe time to start, and we have to wait until the last lightning strike," Lake Central athletic director Tony Bartelemeo said. "We didn't want the kids to be out that late. We're in a good spot, because we didn't take a snap, yet." Lake Central will run its typical Friday routine on Saturday, coach Brett St. Germain said. "We'll make sure the kids go home and get rest and treat Saturday like we would a Friday," St. Germain said. "That does help that we'll have extra time on (Labor Day) Monday. We can turn that into a Saturday-Monday day, so that we technically don't lose a day." Saturdays are different in East Chicago. "We have kids that work Saturdays," Cardinals coach Stacy Adams said. "That's a big problem for us, because the weekend is usually the only time they can get in work. We also have an issue of transportation. Our athletic department has been great and booked all of our transportation months in advance. Now we have to find a way to get here (Saturday)."
