LOWELL | Lowell’s victory over Highland wasn’t a work of art by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a workmanlike performance by running back George Fields. The senior speedster churned out 245 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns at the Inferno Friday night in a 22-0 blanking over an improved Highland. “The offensive line was opening up holes, and it was just running hard,” Fields said. The Red Devils improved to 3-2 overall and to 3-0 in the Northwest Crossroads Conference with their third straight win. You learn how to win ugly tonight,” Lowell coach Keith Kilmer said. “It took them a while to realize that Highland is just not going to come out and lay down for them. “They played the whole game, and our kids did, too. Our defense played fantastic.” The Trojans managed just 28 yards on the ground and 131 yards of total offense. “We were just reading our keys, linemen were separating and ripping and flowing to the ball,” said Dan Garza, who forced a Highland fumble. Meanwhile, Fields scored his second and third TDs of the game in the second half on runs of 32 and 8 yards. “We were just keying off what the defense was doing,” Fields aid.
